Margie Orene Hawks Carter

Mrs. Margie Orene Hawks Carter, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Mount Airy. She was born August 10, 1925, in Surry County, to the late John Jefferson Hawks and Lula Frances Cagle Hawks King. Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a half-sister, Mary Jane Hawks; a half-brother, Bruce R. Hawks; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and good friends, Erin Byrd and Edith McPeak. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Carter; six sisters, Dovie Hiatt, Dorsie "Dot" Martin, Hazel Mitchell, Mazie Hawks, Mae Roddy, and Vestal Childress; and a brother, Robey Hawks. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 3:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 PM until time of the service at the church. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Carter family.
