Marie Jane (Stone) Pell

Mrs. Marie Jane Stone Pell, age 86, of Claudville, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy surrounded by her girls.  Mrs. Pell was born on March 17, 1937, in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Thomas Jefferson and Sadie Vanover  Stone.  Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,  sister, and friend.  She was a loving caregiver to numerous friends and neighbors.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Surviving are her two daughters and son-in-law, Cindy Pell Hodges, Dianne Pell Orr and Gary L.; four grandchildren, Brian Orr and Jenifer, Sydni Smith, Gary Orr and Suzanne Willard, Whitney Hodges and Gavin Jones; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Orr, Jacob Orr, Logan Orr, Ellie Orr; one brother and sister-in-law, Kent Stone and Carol; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alene Tillis, Annie and Ozzie Montgomery, Sylvia and Moe Dawson, Mildred Pell; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Garmin Owens, Benjamin and Pauline Pell; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Bonita Payne, and special caregiver, Debra Kerns.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pell was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Newton Pell, son-in-law, Bruce Hodges; two sisters, Helen Stone Collier, Holleen Stone Owens; eight brothers, Jim Stone, Nile Stone, Champ Stone, J.C. Stone, Bill Stone, Bob Stone, Junior Stone, Larry Stone; three brothers-in-laws and a sister-in-law, Joseph Wheeler Pell, Jr., Willis and Fenton Pell; and Charlie Tillis.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Hunters Chapel Cemetery in Ararat, Virginia with Reverend Tim Burton officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
