Martha "Lavinia" Childress

Mrs. Martha “Lavinia” Childress, age 94, of Mount Airy, passed away on April 23, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Surry County, August 23, 1929, the daughter of the late James S. and Ida Virginia Nester Edwards. Mrs. Childress was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed greatly. She was retired from Quality Mills, Inc. and long-time member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving her children, Jill C. Tolbert and her husband, Greg, and Ed Childress and his wife, Harriett; grandchildren, Jamye Tilley (Travis), Josh Childress (Kimberly), Brandi Felts (Nathan), Courtney Tolbert, Tate Childress; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford “Frank” Childress, her brother, Joseph B. Edwards. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy with Chaplain Drew Southern officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 105 N. Crutchfield St., Unit 2, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Service is serving the Childress family.
