Marty Lee Lovill

Mr. Marty Lee Lovill “Papa”, age 66 of Mount Airy, NC, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving and supportive family on Monday night, March 31, 2025. He was born December 4, 1958, in Surry County to Betty Lou Slate Lovill and the late Richard Arlis “Butch” Lovill. Marty retired from NC Granite Corporation after 44 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed spending time in the deer stand, which to him was always “one of the most peaceful places to be”. When he wasn’t hunting, he could be found fishing and enjoying man trips to coast. Marty enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren at ballfields or gyms, giving coaching tips/advice whether they wanted it or not. Marty was a simple man who prioritized his family's needs above all else. He was known for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. There was rarely a time that he wasn’t smiling or finding the time to make others smile or laugh, even at his own expense. He was a great husband, father, papa, brother, son, and a great friend to many making him easy to love. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 45 years, Cathy Johnson Lovill; daughter and son-in-law, Alex and Tyler Pruitt; son, Brodie Lovill and Angel Hicks; his precious grandchildren whom he was so proud of and adored, Kennedi Pruitt, Kali Pruitt, Harper Pruitt, and Axl Lovill; mother, Betty Lou Slate Lovill; sister, Robin Slate; brother, Tim Lovill; special friends, Timmy Pruitt and Jim Holder; and several other family and friends. In addition to his father, Mr. Lovill was preceded in death by a sister, Vicky Lynn Lovill; brother, Richard Darrell Lovill; and his most cherished dog, “Harley”. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday April 13, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00pm at Mayberry Meadows Venue, 324 Sidden St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. For the service, the family ask for everyone to “come as you are”. The Lovill family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jennifer Chapman, Dr. Karin Giordano, Dr. Blake Scott, and Dr. Jon Golenbieski for all of the care, love, and support given to Marty and the family.
