Marvene Freeman Stanley, age 87, of Dobson passed away November 7, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born May 29, 1937, in Surry County to the late Paul Windell Freeman and Annie Odessa Nichols Freeman. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Rev. Robert Barlow Stanley; an infant son; an infant great-granddaughter, Leah Caudle; sister, Roseann Cockerham; son-in-law, John Thomas Watts; and brother-in-law, Harold Barber.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and son-in-law, Paula Watts, Dexter and Jeffery Sizemore; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Coy and Pat Stanley; grandchildren, Chris Stanley, Amanda Stanley, Rebekah Caudle, Rosanna Teal, Jamie Brown, Amy Williams; great-grandchildren, Ethan Stanley, Aaron Caudle, Maggie Teal, Emery Brown, Eleanor Brown, Mason Williams, and Maddex Williams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Larry Messick, Sue Barber, Helen Henley, and A.V. Cockerham; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Mildred Freeman.
Mrs. Stanley was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who worked tirelessly to support her husband’s ministry with many churches. She worked at Lucia in Elkin before her retirement. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in the Mount Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Terry Coe and Deacon Darrell Merritt officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to The Gideons International Dobson Camp, PO Box 791, Dobson, NC 27017, or Mountain Valley Hospice PO Box 315, Dobson, NC, 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Stanley Family.
