Mr. Marvin “Ray” Shough, age 78 of Patrick Springs passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on April 10, 1948 to Edwin Harris Shough and Mildred Sands Shough. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Holt and two brothers, Herman and Charlie Shough.
He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War earning two bronze stars with oak leaf clusters, sharp shooting citation, and other citations during his service. He never had a single enemy and loved everybody, especially his family and close friends. He loved to fish, hunt, was an amazing artist, taxidermist, and gardening.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years Helen Hancock Shough; one daughter, Tina Shough McGhee (Donald); one son, David Shough (Adelie); seven grandchildren, Logan Sydney McGhee (Matt Rorrer), Gavin Cole McGhee, Tyler Ray Shough, Anna Shough Weidhaas (Clint), Samantha Rae Shough, Ivory Deskins Linkous (Daniel), Kingston Ray Shough; five great-grandchildren, Weston Shough, Novan Shough, Ella Shough, Callen Weidhaas, and Lily Weidhaas; one sister, Ella Mae Martin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mr. Shough will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Dr. Joey McNeil and Dr. Samuel Leonard officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the church from 6:00 until 8:00. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
