Mrs. Mary York Cave, age 86, passed away peacefully on her birthday, March 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at The Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Cave; her parents, Willie Frank York and Margaret Stanley York; several brothers and a sister.
She was a loving mother to Bryan (Angie) and Mark (Kathi) Cave. She was affectionately called Granny, and adored by her three grandchildren, Sarah Cave Johnson, Joshua (Katie) Cave, and Hannah (Anthony) DeBenedetto. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Aaron, Adeline, Addison, Hudson, and Luke.
She was also a wonderful sister, friend and a neighbor to all who knew her. Mary grew up in the Little Richmond Community, and worked in textiles and school nutrition. Later when her children were born, she stayed home and worked on their farm. Mary had many talents and hobbies. She loved to garden, cook and can food from her garden. Her shelves and freezer were always full. She often surprised her family with home cooked meals and desserts left on their doorstep. She played piano by ear and sang in the church choir for many years. She also enjoyed doing puzzles with her great grandchildren. She sewed and crocheted afghans and doilies to share. She enjoyed collecting coins and passed that love on to her grandchildren too. She spent many hours working in her flowers and doing her yardwork until her health declined. One of her favorite things to do was to pick up her great grandchildren up after school and have blueberry muffins or fried apple pies ready for them. She was so happy to meet her youngest great grandson Luke, and he brought her much joy over the last six months.
We will all miss sitting around her kitchen table for a glass of tea, cup of coffee, hot meal, or a game of Rook. In her last days she said “His will, His way.” The Lord had his will and way in her life. Heaven is much sweeter with Granny Mary there.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Angie Cave, and Mark and Kathi Cave; grandchildren, Joshua (Katie) Cave, Sarah Cave Johnson, and Hannah (Anthony) DeBenedetto; great grandchildren, Luke DeBenedetto, Adeline Cave, Hudson Cave, Aaron Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, and Addison Johnson; her sisters Louie Shumate, and Lois Snow; her brother-in-law, Johnny Cave, her sisters-in-law, Jane Bunker and Virginia Cave; and many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM, at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. Services will follow at 3:00 PM, in the Moody-Davis Chapel, with Rev. Dallas Snow, Rev.
