Mary Alice Hiatt Cockerham

Mrs. Mary Alice Hiatt Cockerham, 83, of Walnut Cove, passed away peacefully on Saturday night, April 12, 2025, and is now resting at Jesus’ feet. Mrs. Cockerham was born May 7, 1941, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Robert Oakley and Sadie Bell Haynes Hiatt. Alice retired as a fixer from Sara Lee Corporation after many years of service. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ricky Morton; a son, Arnold Easter; three grandchildren, Michael Morton, Sherrie Helmstetler, and Beth Evans; five great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Susan Hiatt and Vicki Balkey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wayne Cockerham; a daughter, Jennie Cockerham Mabe; two sons, Billy Easter and Bobby Easter; three sisters, Della Malloy, Betty Jesse, and Mozelle Williams; and a brother, Martin Hiatt. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Wall officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
