Mrs. Mary Elaine Johnson Davis, 85, of Dobson, passed away Thursday night, October 16, 2014, at Dunmore Plantation. She was born December 27, 1928, in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late James Claude and Lena Mae Stanley Johnson. Mary was a homemaker, retired from Tultex, and a member of Salem Fork Christian Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Easter and her fiancé, Tim Easter, of Mount Airy and Susan and Mitchell Whitener of Advance; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Mike Davis of Barnwell, SC, Glenn and Jan Davis and Randy and Sandra Davis, all of Dobson, and Steven Davis of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Timothy Jason Snow, Nicholas Easter, Kinston Whitener, Jamie Davis, Jessie DeLapp, Amy Whitaker, Scottie Davis, and Blake Davis; four great-grandchildren, Bentley Snow, Marcie Easter, Cameron Whitaker, and Adelynn Davis; an expectant great-grandson, "Baby Boy" Davis; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Almetta Craddock of Pilot Mountain, Margerette and Jimmy Shaffner of Elkin, Vallie and James Prince of Winston-Salem, Billie Spruill of Rural Hall, and Clara Mae Hillard of Jacksonville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mallory and Velno Johnson of Elkin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Arvey Esker Davis; a grandson, Jody Davis; a sister, Alice Johnson; and two brothers, Marvin Johnson and Roscoe Johnson. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Salem Fork Christian Church, with the Rev. Austin Caviness and the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cross Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Randy and Sandra Davis, 512 Rockford Road, Dobson. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Dunmore Plantation and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
