Obituary

Mrs. Mary Ehtel Dollyhigh McMillian, age 88 of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. McMillian was born on March 9, 1938, in Surry County to the late Brady Beamer and Clara Ethel Lambert Dollyhigh. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Slate Mountain Baptist Church as long as her health allowed. Mary was very active in her church, serving in several roles such as Sunday School teacher. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Chris McMillian and Marilyn; three grandchildren and spouses, Cody McMillian and Jordan, Casey McMillian and Whittley, Anna McMillina; three great-grandchildren, Alexander McMillian, Caroline McMillian, Cassie McMillian; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill Dollyhigh and Brenda; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Leon McMillian; son, Dennis Wayne McMillian; three sisters, Ruby Irene Dollyhigh, Dorothy Dollyhigh Shinualt, Gladys Dollyhigh Childress; and six brothers, Ralph Dollyhigh, Archie Dollyhigh, Jack Dollyhigh, Chester Dollyhigh, Otis Dollyhigh, and E. Gray Dollyhigh. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Airy with Reverend Chris McMillian and Reverend Mike Martin officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
