Mary Hawks Leftwich

Mrs. Mary Edith Hawks Leftwich, age 95, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, April 9, 2026, at Surry Community Health Center. Mrs. Leftwich was born in Surry County on December 26, 1930, to the late Goble Hawks and Edith Hill Hawks. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Leftwich was a very faithful servant of the Lord, loved spending time with family, and was an amazing cook. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Steve Leftwich (Carole), Donna Hayes, Mark Leftwich (Linda), Margaret Marshall; nine special grandchildren; six wonderful great grandchildren; sisters, Silla Dockery, Lynda Gwyn; brother-in-law, Harry Jessup; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leftwich was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilford Leftwich; son, Michael Leftwich; son-in-law, Mike Hayes; sisters, Jean Casstevens, Jane Lawson, Anne Jessup. A graveside service to honor Mrs. Leftwich’s life will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens. There will be no formal visitation held. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Leftwich family.
