Ms. Mary Joan Haynes, 53, of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 4, 1958, in Surry County, to the late William Edgar and Mary Lou Simmons Haynes. Ms. Haynes retired from Surry County Schools and Surry Community College, where she worked as an interpreter for the deaf. She is survived by two sons, Steven Haynes and his wife, Casey Haynes, of Pilot Mountain and Kevin Haynes of Dobson; her cherished grandchildren, Cooper Haynes, the "sunshine" of her life, and his expectant brothers, Devin Haynes and Colby Haynes; three sisters, Rita Flippen and her husband, Russell Flippen, of Winston-Salem, Kaye Harris and Angie Evans, both of Walburg, and Sheila Smith and her fiancé, Tim Karpik, of Mount Airy; a brother, Ricky Haynes of Mount Airy; and her fiancé, Clark White of Dobson. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery, with Chaplain Robbie Vance officiating. The family will receive friends Monday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from noon until the time to depart to the cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Sincere appreciation is expressed to the entire staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their loving care.
