Mary Lee (Jones) Phillips

Mrs. Mary Lee Jones Phillips , age 89 of Cana went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family . Mrs. Phillips was one of eight children born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Roy and Litha Jones Jones. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Paul’s Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mary retired after many years in the textile industry. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving is her son, Joey Phillips; two grandchildren, Chad Phillips and LeighAnn, Karissa Jolene Phillips; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Arlis Phillips and Brystal Rebekah Phillips; two sisters and brother-in-law, Gloria Jean Jones Smythers, Norma Jones Jessup, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Gurnie Arlis Phillips; four sisters, Sylvia Jones, Clarsie Jones, Irene Jones, Georgie Jones Garcia; and a brother, Green Jones. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Justin McCreary officiating. Interment will follow at Paul’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
