Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Holyfield Cook Ridenhour

Mrs. Mary Kathryn “ Kathy” Holyfield Cook Ridenhour, age 66 of Dobson received her Angel wings on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on April 20, 1949 to the late Floyd and Viola Holt Holyfield. Mrs. Ridenhour was a retired Hairdresser and a Certified Nurse’s Assistant having cared for several family members and friends. She had a great love for flowers and gardening and enjoyed canning for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and foster mother. She was a faithful member of Salem Fork Baptist Church where she had attended since her early childhood. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lee Ridenhour, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Chris White; a son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Debbie Cook all of Dobson; a foster child, Patty Kafafy, of State Road; her beloved grandchildren, Tyler White, Matthew White, Nicole and Annie White, Jonathan Lee Cook, Robert Martin “Robbie” Cook, Josh Potts, Kacey Fain and Kelly and Shane Parker; great- grandchildren, Landon and Kloey Easter and Lilith Parker; a brother Rev. Leon and wife Sarah Holyfield of Elkin; a step-sister, Imogene Hardy of Dobson; and a special friend and the father of her children, Roger Cook, of Elkin; several special nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Salem Fork Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Ball, the Rev. Leon Holyfield, the Rev. Van Brindle and the Rev. Sean Joplin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 6 to 8pm on Thursday where her body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service, and other times at the home of her daughter, Michelle, 998 Zephyr Road. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999 Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or to Salem Fork Baptist Church, 555 Twin Oaks Road Elkin, NC 28621 or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Woltz Hospice Home for their loving and compassionate care.
