Mary Lou Cockerham Rigney

Mrs. Mary Lou Cockerham Rigney, age 93, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  She was born in Surry County on January 16, 1930, to the late Kelly and Maggie Cockerham.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Austin (Steve); son and daughter-in-law, David Rigney (Gail); eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Albert Cockerham (Jenny).  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rigney was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Rigney; daughter, Donna Lou Rigney; sisters, Nina Simmons, Ella Mae Cockerham, Alberta Holder.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Doug Cocherham.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church.  the Family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the funeral home.
