Mary Virginia Scales

Miss Mary Virginia Scales, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Miss Scales was born April 24, 1929, in Patrick County, VA, to the late George S. and Mary Ila Gates Scales. She was a homemaker and a retired farmer. Miss Scales is survived by a sister, Ruth Smith of Mount Airy; a brother, Moir Scales of Philadelphia, PA; and two nephews, Bill Smith and Jack Smith and his wife, Carole, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Miss Scales was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sue Scales Phillips; and a brother, Henry Scales. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, August 14, 2009, at Hunters Chapel Church Cemetery, by the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
