Mary Sue Corns Payne

Mrs. Mary Sue “Nanny” Corns Payne, 73, of Westfield gained her angel wings on July 11, 2025, at Forsyth Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born April 23, 1951, to the late Junior and Ethelyne Corns. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Bobby” Corn. She was married to her best friend and love of her life, Linwood Payne, for 54 years, and together they have one son, Brian Payne. She spent most of her career working for the postal service and serving the Francisco Ladies Axillary and Fire Department. She loved gardening, baking, nature, friends, and family. Sue was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, nanny and friend who will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Linwood Payne; son, Brian Payne and Chastity; grandchildren, Dylan, Lexie, and Raylan Payne; great grandchild, Wesley Ward; sister, Sandra Nixon; and brother, Tommy Corns and Ellie. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Brown Mountain Church in Westfield, NC. A service of worship and celebration will be held at Brown Mountain Church at a later date to be announced. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
