Mary Sue Wright Smith

Mrs. Mary Sue Wright Smith, age 91, of Lowgap, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Smith was born November 22, 1932 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Perry Gray and Maude Holder Wright.  Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  Being a mother in life was her greatest joy along with being a championship basketball player at Lowgap High School.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Amy Carol Smith-Moyer and husband Walter; son, Barry Craig Smith; grandchildren and spouse, David Lee Smith and Amy, Ethan Moyer, Jonathan Moyer, Aidan Moyer; great-grandchildren, twins, Abigail and Elizabeth Smith, Andrew Smith, Maryann Smith, Sarah Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Mack Wright and Betty; a special family member, Reneé; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Smith; sisters, Dora Marie Wright Sykes, Amelda Wright Privett, Sena Wright Hawks, Betty Lou Wright Moore; brother, Transon Grey Wright; half-brother, Clinton Wright.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Larry Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time for the service at the funeral home.
