Mary Melba Gentry Tate

Mrs. Mary Melba Gentry Tate, 85, of 1473 Simpson Mill Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, November 21, 2016, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Tate was born December 19, 1930, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Claude Washington Gentry, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Jarrell Gentry. Melba was a homemaker and a member of New Charity Baptist Church. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Tammy Towe Tate, Michael and Tammy Tucker Tate, Jeffery and Portia Johnson Tate, and Christopher and Sarah Quesinberry Tate, all of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Candice Tate (Chris Jones) of Pilot Mountain, Jennifer Pate and her husband, Ross, of Jonesborough, TN, Tabitha Jones, Bradley Tate, and Chad Tate, all of Mount Airy, and Joshua Tate and his wife, Jessica, of Kernersville; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Hicks, Mackenzie Tate, and Nolan Jones; a brother and sister-in-law, C.W. Gentry, Jr. and Jolene Gentry of Mount Airy; a special sister-like cousin, Peggy Jarrell Tate of Mount Airy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Winferd “Sandy” Tate; a sister, Clara Lee Gentry Southworth; and a brother, Franklin “Pete” Gentry. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 25, 2016, at 1:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hank Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from noon until 1:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Foothills Food Pantry, 233 Cooper Street, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
