Maurice William "Bill" Werner II

Maurice William “Bill” Werner II, 57, of Mount Airy, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly, September 13, 2026, at his home. Born July 13, 1969, in Yuba County, California to the late Maurice William Werner and Mae Edwards Werner. Bill graduated from Surry Central High School in 1987. He attended Surry Community College and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where we majored in English. He was a good writer, but his true calling was cooking. A talented sous chef, Bill worked for over 30 years in the restaurant business. Most recently he worked for a dozen plus years at Chase & Charli’s in Mount Airy. He was loyal, dependable, and quite perfectionistic in his job. Bill was understated in his manner and had a gentle and generous nature. He was complex in his emotions and felt things very deeply. His sense of humor was dry and irreverent and often left you wondering if you had been insulted or not. He was a unique, special person and will be extremely missed. Along with his mother, he is survived by his sister, Christine Werner Booher; niece, Sierra Booher Snell and Taylor (and their family); nephew, Sam Booher and Morgan (and their family); beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins in Kansas. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pepper and Robin (and their families); niece, Breanna Swicegood (and her children); nephew, Cody Swicegood; and pets, 4 cats, and 2 dogs. Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Lee Booher; and only 3 months ago, his wife 19 years, Ginger Kirkman Werner. A memorial service will he held September 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Smith officiating.
