Mavis (Tate) Johnson

Ms. Mavis Tate Johnson, age 81, of Mount Airy passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Ms. Johnson was born May 22, 1942, in Surry County to the late Charlie and Bessie Mae Payne Tate Gunnell.  Mavis was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Johnson Boles and Anthony; son Tony Lee Johnson, Sr.; grandchildren, Tony Lee Johnson, Jr., James Andrew Boles, Kelly Dawn Johnson; one sister, Lillie Tate Norman; a brother William Tate; a special friend, Sharon Boles; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister, Lala Bell Tate Johnson; and two brothers, Clinton Thomas Tate, and Glenn Deatherage Tate.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 2:00PM until 4:00 PM.  A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangement.
