Mrs. Melissa Kay Lawson Worrell, age 62, of Virginia, passed away Friday morning, February 6, 2026, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Worrell was born in Claypool Hill, Virginia, on August 13, 1963, to the late Douglas William and Margaret Blanton Lawson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sibling and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Worrell was a proud registered nurse for over 20 years at Northern Hospital and was a faithful member of Hope Community Church for several years. She admired pets, whether it was cats or dogs. Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 33 years, Kevin Worrell; daughters and son-in-law, Amanda Smith, Amy Piccioni and Frank; son and daughter-in-law, Shane Owens and Brooklyn; grandchildren, Jalie Smith, Caroline Owens; sister, Sue Vandyke; special nieces, Tracy Bevins, Cindy Strange. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Worrell was preceded in death by her sister, Connie Vandyke; brother, Jeff Lawson. A celebration of Mrs. Worrell’s life will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Hope Community Church with Pastor Anthony Thomas officiating. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Worrell family.
