Michael Duane Burnell, Sr

Mr. Michael Duane Burnell, Sr., 67, of 791 Maple Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, April 25, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Burnell was born October 16, 1947, in Hawaii, the son of the late Vernon and Verrice Moulton Burnell. Michael served our country in the United States Army in the late 1960s and early 1970s and later retired from North Carolina Foam Industries. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Coleman Burnell of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Duane Burnell, Jr. and Julie Burnell and Johnny Burnell, all of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Josh Burnell and Matthew Burnell; and a sister, Toni Burnell of Florida. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is in charge of the cremation and serving the family. No formal memorial service will be held; however, the family will receive friends Tuesday, April 28, 2015, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the home of Michael Duane Burnell, Jr. and Julie Burnell, 116 Summit Drive (off South Franklin Road), Mount Airy.
