Michael Edwin Lloyd

Jul 30, 1954 — Aug 22, 2026

Michael Edwin Lloyd, age 72, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 22.

Born on July 30, 1954, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Michael was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, and love.

Mike lived in Florida for many years, where he built a career in the utility industry. He was especially proud of his years working as a lineman in his younger days and continued his career in the utility business as a foreman and supervisor.

An avid scuba diver, Mike completed more than 1,000 dives and had a particular love for cave diving in Florida’s beautiful springs. He and his wife, Betsy, shared this love for scuba diving and traveled together on many scuba adventures throughout the world. He moved from Florida to North Carolina, where he fell in love with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting with his brother-in-law, Mike Smith, and his dear friend, Richard Smith. He also loved hiking in the Smoky Mountains and spending time fishing with his grandchildren.

Most importantly, Mike was a devoted Christian. He read his Bible daily and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. His faith was a central part of his life and a source of strength and peace.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy Smith Lloyd; his sons, Michael and Shawna Lloyd Jr., Ashton and Macey Lloyd, and Parker and Elise Lloyd; his stepchildren, Juli and Henry Clark, Ashly and John Berta, Justin and Caroline Jackson, and Candace and Jeremy Moody; and thirteen wonderful grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Lloyd; his brother-in-law Mike Smith and Denise Attardo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris Lloyd.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, at Moody Funeral Home, 206 W. Pine St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Mike’s life and share memories of a man who brought love, laughter, and kindness to so many. Service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM

Mike will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Lying beside his bed was a passage that reflected the quiet wisdom and faith he carried throughout his life:

“He who has knowledge spares his words,

And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.

Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace.”

Proverbs 17:27–28
