Michael "Mike" Ray Sykes

Mr. Michael Ray Sykes, 62 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with his loved ones by his side. Born in Surry County, July 17, 1964, the only son to Geraldine Johnson Sykes and the late Rayburn Elza Sykes. Mike was a long-time cattle farmer. He was a wonderful dad, Papa, son, and brother. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Katie Marie Sykes; granddaughter, Ava Grace Clodfelter; mother, Geraldine Johnson Sykes; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Mark Tedder; nephew, Gabriel Aaron Tedder and wife Brayden; ex-wife; Sandy Schnare; special friends, Terry and Michelle King and Charlie; and several other family and friends. In addition to his father, Mr. Sykes was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Michelle Sykes; and his best friend, Lil Debbie the dog. The graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00am at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00am until time to leave for the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
