Michael Joseph Service

Mr. Michael Joseph Service, age 82 of Meadows of Dan passed away July 30, 2006 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. Mr. Service was born on May 30, 1924 in Washington D.C. to the late Michael J. Service and Margretta Smullen Service. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margarete Service. He was a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict as a fighter pilot. He was a member of the VFW Post 8467 and a member of the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Surviving are two daughters and a son in law, Laurel and James Wilson of Portsmouth, Leslie Gayle of Newport News; three sons and daughters in law, Tim and Susan Service of Meadows of Dan, Chris and Michele Service of Portsmouth, Matthew and Kirsten Service of Freinsheim, Germany; Nine grandchildren, Amber and husband, Marc Wilkerson, Brandon and wife, Natalee Wilson, Michael Gayle, James Gayle, Jessica Shelor, Jeremiah Shelor, Geoffrey Service, Nicole Service, Fabienne Service; and two great grandchildren, Andrew James Wilson and Avery Grace Wilkerson. Funeral services for Mr. Service will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Rev. Bucky Hunsicker officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
