Michael Simmons

Mr. Michael “Mike” Simmons, age 79, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 2, 1945 in Surry County to the late Garnett and Princess Alice Callaway Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a retired Lineman from Pike Electric, farmer, and proud Papa. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Betty Lou Gammons Simmons; children, Michelle Gough (Todd) and Robin Simmons; grandchildren, Laura Beth Luna (Jesus), Rhett Gough (Claire) and two grandpups: Sissy and Tank Simmons; great grandchildren, Maren Murphy Gough, Kenneth Deacon Gough, and Camila Grace Luna, ; brother, Frank Simmons (Betty). In addition to his parents Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by sisters, Sally Utt, Mary Leigh Adams, and Janet Riddle; and brother, Richard Simmons. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 1:00 PM with service conducted by Rev. Ken Clark and Rev. Alan Branch. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, November 24, 2024 at Moody Funeral Home, Mount Airy NC from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The family wishes to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, caregivers Mary Kay Snow, and Alledia Hess, and the entire staff of 9 North Acute Care Unit, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for their outstanding care and compassion.
