Michael Ray Wood

Mr. Michael “Mikey” Ray Wood, age 51, passed away on August 9, 2023, at his home in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. He was born in Martinsville, VA on November 16, 1971, to loving parents J. Michael Wood and Veda Horton Wood. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Martha Annie Wood; daughters, Michaela Dodson (Kevin) and Sonora Wood; future grandchild, Baby Tabor; sister, Suzanne Rorrer (Curt); special nieces, Fiona and Sabrina; special sister-in-law, Hayley Wood; special nephew, Wesley; cousin and honorary brother, Mark Wood; stepdaughters, Amber Robertson and Heather Lineberry (Dustin); grandchildren, Opie, Ana, Aliza, and Mason; special brother-in-law, Joel Galyean; special friends, Melvin and Avagene Terry; all his aunts, uncles, cousins and those family members he gained from his loving marriage to Martha.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother Barry James Wood. Take comfort, these two brothers are together again, free from the pain and suffering their illnesses brought to their final days.

Mikey’s life here on earth was short but well lived. His strong work ethic filled his life with purpose and meaning. He was dedicated to his family, preserving the family farm, and Wood’s Produce Co. That dedication provided him with a life he enjoyed, because it combined all the things he loved-building stuff, tractors (John Deere), trucks (Peterbilt), friends, co-workers, and family.

Mikey will be missed by everyone blessed enough to have known him.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA with Pastor Marcus Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in the Plaster Family Cemetery in Vesta, VA. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:30 pm until time of the service on Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
