Mr. Moir Elzevan Atkins, 91, of 372 Little Mountain Church Road, Ararat, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 28, 2015, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Atkins was born November 28, 1923, in Surry County, the son of the late Burton Elzevan and Jennie Simpson Atkins. Moir was a retired farmer and general contractor and a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Brenda Atkins and Larry and Gracie Atkins, all of Ararat, and Gary and Joan Atkins and Robin and Nan Atkins, all of Pilot Mountain; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his extended family, Sandra and Sam Boles and family of Ararat; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Needham Atkins; his second wife, Faye Simpson Francis Atkins; and eight brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Watson and the Rev. Grant Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by his caregivers, Teresa Pack and Shelley Jester.
