Monroe Ernest Hiatt

Mr. Monroe Ernest Hiatt, 82 of Mount Airy, passed away Friday December 26, 2025, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born November 9, 1943, in Alleghany County, PA to the late William Harvey Hiatt and Alma Beatrice Jones Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt proudly served our country in the US Air Force and retired as an IT Specialist. Mr. Hiatt won the Medal for Outstanding Contribution to the American Research Program from the National Science Foundation. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Miller of Sylva, NC; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kimberly Hiatt of Blanding, UT, and Shawn Hiatt of Palms Springs, CA; several grandchildren; former wife, Judy Jones of Blanding, UT; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Cheney of Casper, WY; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Stephen R. Hiatt and Darlene of Granite Quarry, NC; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Grant Hiatt. A memorial service was held January 10, 2026 in celebration of Mr. Hiatt’s life. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
