Mr. Alvis Lestell Conner

Mr. Alvis L. Conner, age 93 of Woolwine, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Thank you dad for your love, your constant support, and for being a very special man. He was born in Patrick County on April 3, 1922 to the late Posie and Naomi Mize Conner. In addition to his parents, Mr. Conner was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle McPeak Conner; four sisters, Essie Conner, Evelyn Salmons, Ruth Pack and Virginia Hylton; three brothers, Jewell, Linwood and Leroy Conner; and a son-in-law, Lynn Strickland. He had served in the United States Army during World War II, and had retired from Bassett Superior Lines. Mr. Conner is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Darlene Conner Strickland, Carol Conner and Mark Selby of Winston-Salem and Aileen Conner of Cana; six grandchildren, Alicia Combs and husband, Travis, Brittany Strickland, Abby and Mac Strickland, Carole Jordan and Jaimi Dominguez; nine great grandchildren, Haley and Madison Combs, Cristian Dominguez, Aliza and Marina Zappa, Spencer and Sydney Jordan and William and Madison Strickland. One sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Richard Morrison of Stuart, one brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Lucy Conner of Stuart; and a very special friend, Elva Haskins of Collinsville. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 10:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. A graveside service will immediately follow in Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Virginia 24185.
