Mr. Arthur Guy Shockley

Mr. Arthur Guy Shockley, age 86 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on July 8, 1927 to the late Arthur N. and Essie Ayers Shockley. He graduated from Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, attended Concord United Methodist Church, was a lifelong farmer and had retired from J.P. Stevens Rubber Thread. He was very devoted to his family, loved his church, and was quick to help anyone in need.
Mr. Shockley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Vernon Shockley of the home; four children and their spouses, James A. "Jimmy" and Freda Shockley of Stuart, Karen S. and Joseph A. "Buddy" Coleman of Stuart, David L. and Theresa Shockley of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Gale Shockley of Radford; four grandchildren, Jonathan A. Coleman, and wife, Ashley of Christiansburg, Krista Shockley Hancock and husband, Josh of Stuart, Caleb B. Shockley of Fuquay Varina and Joshua B. Shockley of Fuquay Varnia; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Cole Hancock, Evan Levi Hancock and Lillie Grace Coleman.
Funeral services for Mr. Shockley will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
