Mr. Benjamin Creasy Young

Mr. Benjamin Creasy Young, 77, of Ararat, VA, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Patrick County, VA, to the late Johnnie Sanford and Mattie Thompson Young. Mr. Young graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 1957 at the age of 16 and completed his education at Draughn Business College. He retired from RJ Reynolds after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association, Camel City Wings Chapter G, and Triad Custom Modelers. He raced at Bowman Gray Stadium from 1975 through 1981 in his home-built racecar. He was Street Stock Champion in 1979. Mr. Young traveled more than half the states in the United States and three Canadian Provinces by motorcycle and visited many other states by car. He enjoyed woodworking, making toys and many furniture pieces. Mr. Young was a backyard mechanic who inspired and mentored many. He was the family photographer, and he enjoyed antique and classic cars. Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Sloan Young of the home; two sons, Jonathan Young and his wife, Alyson, of Winston-Salem and Michael Young and his friend, Diana Rickard, of Rural Hall; a daughter, Sandra Moore and her husband, Rodney, of Midway; his grandchildren, Jessica Walton, Elizabeth Young, Joshua Young, Benjamin Young, Tyler Young, Kayla Moore, Justin Moore, and Wyatt Moore; his great-grandchildren, Kellan Mitchell and Aubrey Young; a sister, Carol Edgell and her husband, Les; three brothers, John Taylor Young and his wife, Evelyn, of Ararat, VA, David Young and his wife, Mary Lee, of Stuart, VA, and Barry Young and his wife, Kathy, of Ennis, MT; an uncle, Turner Thompson of Ararat, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. The family is planning a private memorial service at a later date.
