Mr. Billy Joe McHone

Mr. Billy Joe McHone, age 76, of Ararat, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. McHone was born in Surry County on October 10, 1941, to Jesse and Lela Marsh McHone. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to so many. He will be dearly missed. Surviving is his devoted wife, Janie Miller McHone; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Brenda McHone, and Andy and Sarah McHone; grandchildren, Brittany Leonard and husband Christopher, Melody McHone, and Luke McHone; great grandchildren, Colby Leonard, Olivia Clare Leonard, and Colton Leonard; sisters, Susan Hicks, Polly Johnson, and Opal Hawks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Peggy McHone, and Buddy and Ruth McHone; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Gary Hawks. In addition to his parents, Mr. McHone was preceded in death by a son, William Jeffrey McHone; a sister, Allene Johnson and a brother, Jack McHone. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 15, 2017, at Pine Hill Church by Rev. Roger Miller and Rev. Ronnie Miller. Mr. McHone will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Miller-Holyfield Family Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care at 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
