Mr. Billy Jay Smith

Mr. Billy Jay Smith, age 50 of Mount Airy passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was born in Surry County on August 2, 1963 to the late Charlie Leroy and Betty Pack Smith. He was a forklift operator for Instell Wire Company and an avid baseball fan. Survivors include two sisters, Carol Smith Coleman of Claudeville VA and Lisa Alspaugh of Lowgap and a half brother, Charles Smith, also of Claudeville, VA.; Mrs. Vena Woodring, and her daughter Robin with whom he made his home since the age of 11. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Gail Leroy and Bobby Leon Smith and Rodney Woodring, who was very instrumental during his childhood years. A celebration of his life will be held at the White Plains ball field, where he had many fond memories, at 6 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2014.
