Mr. Bobby Henderson Hiatt, 76 of Mt. Airy passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home Thursday, July 4, 2013. He was born in Surry County on August 14, 1936 to the late Robert L. and Norma Parries Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt served in the United States Army. He was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren and retired as a greeter from the NC Welcome Center. Bobby loved antique cars, trees, flowers, history and good books. Mr. Hiatt is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Hiatt and Peter Reichard of Greensboro, Sheila and Robert Cox of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kaitlin Cox Warnick and her husband, Tom, Austin Hiatt Cox, Emily Louise Hiatt Reichard and Dallin Robert Cox; sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes and Roy Butler of Columbus, OH, Lannie and Tim Edwards and Rhonda Hiatt all of Mt. Airy; a brother, Steve Hiatt of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Allen Hiatt; his second wife, Nancy Mabe Hiatt and a brother, Manfred Hiatt. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2013 by Rev. Carol Williams-Gilbert and Robert Cox at Midkiff Family Cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain; taps by Donald Galyean. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers are welcome, but to honor Bobby's life plant a tree, spend time with a child or make a donation to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
