Mr. Buford Samuel Rakes

Mr. Buford Samuel Rakes age 84, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Salem Health & Rehab. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia on July 3rd, 1933 to the late Samuel Kyle Rakes and Dorothy Cannady Rakes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Rakes; and a sister, Joyce Foley. Mr. Rakes loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.

Surviving is a wife, Dorothy Caldwell of the home; two children, a son, Terry Rakes of California; and a daughter, Debbie Caldwell of Roanoke, VA; two grandchildren; two siblings, a brother, Dan Rakes of King William, VA; and a sister, Rachel Handy of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Fred Rakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Rakes Family Cemetery in Charity, VA.
