Mr. Carl Vernon Earles, age 77 of Fieldale passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem after a battle with cancer. He was born on November 29, 1936 in Henry County. Mr. Earles was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Massey Earles; his parents, Thomas C. Earles and Vergie Witt Earles; one brother, Alton Earles; and three sisters, Madeline Earles, Thelma O'Dell and Mildred O'Dell. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and self-employed for 47 years. He was the owner and operator of Earles Excavating, Grading, Trucking, Logging, Sawmill and Demolition, and he loved his work. Mr. Earles is remembered as being a dedicated family man. He will be remembered as always willing to lend a helping hand. He was appreciated for his sense of humor and for his ability to be forthright. He was of the Protestant faith and very much loved the Lord and reading his Bible.
Mr. Earles is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carla S. Earles-Jamison and David Jamison of Fairfax; one son, John S. Earles of Fieldale; three grandchildren, Julia C. Jamison of Fairfax, Josef Jamison of Fairfax and Luke D. Earles of Fieldale; and one sister, Marie Massey-Heise of Martinsville.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Ross-Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
