Mr. Charles Earl Dugger

Mr. Charles Earl Dugger, age 89 of Mt. Airy passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on Friday June 1, 2012. He was born in Marion, Ill. on September 24, 1922 to the late Charles Marshall and Pearl Evelyn Tucker Dugger Moyers. Mr. Dugger served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Bennington on the Pacific Ocean during World War II. He retired as plant manager from Proctor Silex Corporation in 1983. Mr. Dugger was a member of Surry Fine Arts Council; Surry County Historical Society; and a long time member of the Mt. Airy Rotary Club where he served in the past as President and most recently as Sergeant of Arms for many years. He was a volunteer tutor for reading programs in the Mt. Airy School System and active in Central United Methodist Church. Mr. Dugger enjoyed spending time at the piano and sharing his joy in music with others. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Freeman Dugger of the home; children, Jane Hart and husband, Robert of Charleston, SC, Charles Dugger and wife, April of Loudon, TN, Lee Boise and husband, Duane of Marietta, GA, Rachel Wiggins and husband, Thomas of Winston Salem, James Freeman and wife, Lisa of Elkin; grandchildren, Charles Hart, Sarah Black and husband Alan, Heather Piermattei and husband, Preston, Duane Dugger and wife, Erica, Walter Wiggins and wife, Sarah, Douglas Wiggins, Kennedy Freeman, Henry Freeman, and Margaret Freeman; great grandchildren, McKenzie Ryan, Taylor Dugger, Joshua Dugger, and Logan Dugger; sister, Evelyn J. Tartaglia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dugger was preceded in death by his first wife, LaVera Story Dugger, his brother, Don William Dugger, and his grandmother, Sarah Jane Overby. Funeral services will be held Monday June 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy with Rev. John Ferree officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens, with graveside rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The Dugger family will receive friends in the Ladies Parlor of the church from 10:00 until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church 1909 North Main St. Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to The Salvation Army 651 South South St. Mount Airy, NC 27030.
