Mr. David Sidney Roberts, 66 of Mt. Airy passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was born in Surry County on December 31, 1948 to the late Leonard Kelly and Ruth Coalson Roberts. Mr. Roberts bravely served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 1981. Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Roberts; a son, Sidney Jason Roberts; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Yorick, Abbe, and Justin; the mother of his children, Mary Lynn Whitaker Roberts; sisters, Kay Nelson, Sarah Jeffcoat; a half-sister, Frances Roberts Thompson and a brother, Brendle Ray Roberts and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan David Roberts, Sr.; and a brother, L.D. Roberts. Military honors will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. Interment will follow at New Beginning Baptist Church.
