Mr. David Towler Tatum

Mr. David Towler Tatum, age 80 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on January 18, 1932 to the late Towler Benton Tatum and Ruby Critz Tatum. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tatum was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Critz Tatum. Following his high school graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. After returning home, he helped to construct East Hampton Rubber Thread in Stuart where he was employed until 1962. At that time, he went to work for DuPont in Martinsville where he retired with 23 years of service. Following his retirement, he drove a school bus for the Patrick County School System. He was of the Methodist faith and attended Concord United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Mr. Tatum is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sally Ruth Rogers Tatum of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wesley Towler Tatum and Sharon, of Stuart, and David Patrick Tatum of the home; two grandchildren, Cassandra Elizabeth Tatum and Cameron Patrick Tatum; and one sister, Mary Frances Spencer of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Tatum will be held Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
