Mr. Delano Roosevelt Reece, age 77, of Dobson passed away on Monday February 3, 2014 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on January 15, 1937 to the late Charlie and Sarah Claire Reece. Mr. Reece was a retired mechanic from Anchor Motor Company and a dedicated member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Frances Johnson Reece, of the home; a daughter, Sheila Handy; a son and daughter-in-law, The Rev. Marty and Amy Reece of Dobson; five grandchildren, Jacob Stevens, Cole Reece, Austin Stevens, Noah Reece and Bryson Handy; two great-grandchildren, Jaysey Reece and Alex Reece; and a sister, Grace Reece of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, one sister, Alma Coe and three brothers Juel Reece, Jim Dan Reece and Monroe Reece preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Mount Hermon Baptist Church by the Rev. Marty Reece and the Rev. Jimmy Tucker with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
