Mr. Dennis Bernard Upchurch, 101 of Lambsburg, VA passed away at his home on Saturday, November 1, 2014. He was born May 28, 1913 Carroll County one of eight children to the late Green and Sarah Spencer Upchurch. Mr. Upchurch lived through a lot of history. Earlier in his life, he helped build the Blue Ridge Parkway; working in many different jobs he continued to work until he was seventy-eight years old. Mr. Upchurch is survived by a daughter and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Gene Pressley of Lincolnton, NC and Orville Latham of Lambsburg, VA; three sons and four daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Upchurch of Denver, NC, Hurley and Tammy Upchurch of Mt. Airy, NC, Dennis Junior "D.J." Upchurch of Mt. Airy, NC, Peggy Upchurch of Mt. airy, NC, and Barbara Upchurch of PA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Upchurch was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Upchurch; a daughter, Mildred Marie Latham; three sons, James Carlos, Wayne and Bernard Upchurch; two sisters, Celeste Hill and Emma Williams; three brothers, Jasper, Warren and Early Upchurch and two younger brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Cavey officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards-Upchurch Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 12:30 PM until the time of service on Wednesday.
