Mr. Donald Gene Culler, 74 originally from Mt. Airy passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 in Niceville, FL. He was born in Surry County on May 20, 1939 to the late Gene Beamer and Irene Doss Culler. Donald graduated from Copeland High School in 1957. As a high school student, Donald was very proud of being a bus driver from the time he got his license until graduation. He always talked about growing up on the farm in Copeland and helping his dad work in his sawmill. Donald's first public job took him to Elkin, NC with Chatham Manufacturing. In 1965 he started to work with Central Telephone Company in Elkin which eventually lead him to Tallahassee, FL. He loved the mountains, but he loved Florida even more and he was an avid Florida State University Fan. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Craig Tesh, Donna and Larry Hall all of Mt. Airy, April and Thomas Martin of Tallahassee, FL; a son Donald Edward "Eddie" Culler of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren and two spouses, Crystal and David Hamlin, Sara Shelton Moser, Ben Davis all Mt. Airy, Sydney and Alexandria Davis of Raleigh, Dillon Martin of Tallahassee, FL; one great grandchild, Sam Hamlin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Rachel Culler of Pinnacle and Roy and Jean Culler of Pilot Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Stony Knoll Methodist Church in Copeland with Rev. Jerry Pardue officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy will be assisting the Culler Family.
