On July 27th, 2015, after 55 years of loving marriage, Donald Blake Fulk was laid in the arms of Jesus by his loving wife, Joyce Smith Fulk. Mr. Fulk, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Fulk was born September 29, 1938 in Surry County, one of three sons born to the late Sam and Rebecca Myrtle Carson Fulk. Don served our country in the United States Army from 1961-1963. He worked as a salesman at Murray Supply in Winston-Salem for many years and later retired from United Plumbing Supply. Since retirement, his passion was wood crafting, and he created beautiful pieces with meticulous attention to detail. Don was an avid Braves fan and was well-known by friends and family for his (world famous!) homemade sausage gravy. He was a longtime and faithful member of Siloam Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, on several committees and sang bass in the choir. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Smith Fulk of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Dawn Fulk (Christopher Booth) of Charlotte and Laura Jo Fulk McClung (Joseph "Joe" McClung) of Greenville, NC; a son, Donald Blake Fulk, Jr. (Sarah Fulk) of Simpsonville, SC; four grandchildren, Tucker McClung, Audrey Morgan McClung, Benjamin Fulk, and Sophia Fulk; a brother, John Fulk (Roberta Fulk) of Rocky Mount; a sister-in-law, Susan Fulk of Danville, VA; a brother-in-law, Billy Clayton Smith (Peggy) of Dobson; several nieces and nephews, Karen Shockley (Bruce), Vickie Quade (Jeff), Wesley Fulk (Renee), Beth Crews (Chet), Billy Clayton Smith, Jr. (Frankie), Teresa Hodges (Gary), and Margaret Carter (Matt); and a host of great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, James Carson Fulk of Danville, VA. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Don's caregivers, Ashley Hatton and Donna Hiatt (unofficial adopted daughter). They are also grateful for the care provided by Jessica Moore, Betty Stanley, Jennifer Fulton, and other staff members from Mountain Valley Hospice and the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. A service of worship and celebration of Don's life will be held Thursday, July 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Faw officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 29th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Siloam Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Margaret Carter, P.O.
