Mr. Edgar Reid James

Mr. Edgar Reid James age 94 of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Wednesday morning, February 12, 2014 at his home. He was born August 13, 1919 in Surry County to the late Edgar Lee and Dora Etta Jones James. He was a retired meat cutter and was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II. Surviving are a "special" nephew and wife, James Wagoner and Peggy of Mt. Airy. four step daughters, Mrs. Pat Ratcliff of Mt. Airy, Mrs. Alverta Miller of Greenville, SC, Mrs. Gale Ratcliff of Mt. Airy and Mrs. Peggy Rierson of Rural hall several step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. James was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Harold James and a sister, Ruth Wagoner. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, Febraury16, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Memorial Honor Guard, VFW Post 2019 Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The service will be conducted by Rev. Richard Loman. The family will receive friends Sunday at Moody Funeral Home from 12:30 pm until time for Mr. James to be taken to the cemetery for the service. The family would like to express a "special thanks" to Penny Wall, Justin Atkins, Dane Hall and Brandon Atkins and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliativc Care for the excellent care given to Mr. James during his illness.
