Mr. Eldon Alexander Wood

Mr. Eldon Alexander Wood, age 71 of Meadows of Dan passed away Thursday at the Laurel Meadows Nursing Home. He was born in Patrick County on April 20, 1943 to the late Wade Harold Wood and Lillie Maude Hylton Wood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin C. Wood; and a sister, Iva Mae Harris. He served in the US Army; was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church; and retired from Newport News Shipyard after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Colleen Wood of the home; five brothers and sisters in law, Thomas Wood of Martinsville, Clifford and Janet Wood of Alabama, Lester Wood of Meadows of Dan, Richard and Jeanette Wood of Wytheville, Sanford Wood of Meadows of Dan; four sisters, Thelma Shelor and Virginia Martin both of Meadows of Dan, Mary Clifton of Patrick Springs, Maudie Edwards of Martinsville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Bonnie Murdock of Roanoke; Gaynell and Charles Sigmon of Martinsville, Wanda Keith of Martinsville; and a very special niece, Julie Comfort.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 19, 2014 at 2 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday night at the funeral home, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O.
