Mr. Elexander Grate Marshall

Mr. Elexander Grate Marshall, age 84 of Lambsburg, VA, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, July 9, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Carroll County, the eldest of twelve children of Oscar Ruben and Lillie Mae East Marshall. Mr. Marshall was the co-owner and operator of Shelton Plumbing, from which he retired, but never lost his love for the business. He was a lifelong member of Lambsburg Missionary Baptist Church where he joined as a child. He leaves to cherish his memory seven sisters, Ruth Whitaker of Hudson, Gertrude Boles of Granite Falls, Mary Chappell and Joyce Berrier and husband Phillip all of Cana, Rachel Starnes of Granite Falls, Edna Shelton and husband John of Radford and Janette Good and husband Tom of Stoneville; a brother, Fred and wife Betty Marshall of Mt. Airy, a sister-in-law, Helen Marshall of Galax; numerous special nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife, Edna June "Bill" Lyons Marshall, a sister, Betty Jo Blackburn and two brothers, James Marshall and Benton Marshall, a nephew, Buddy Marshall, a sister-in-law, Jean Marshall and five brothers-in-law, Lawrence Whitaker, Jack Chappell, G. C. Blackburn, Jim Starnes and Jim Boles. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, July 13, 2012 at Lambsbutg Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Donald Bryant, Sr. and Rev. Verlon Combs. Burial will follow in Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home and at other times at his home. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregiver for many years, Doris Lyons, and to all his many caretakers over the years; and the family thanks his many friends and neighbors for their visits, love, and prayers during his sickness.
