Mr. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Martin, 73, of Stuart, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014. He was born in Stokes County on September 8, 1940 to the late Andrew Jackson and Gladis Clark Martin. He was a member of Friendly Christian Church; he had served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and had made a career in the retail business.
Other than his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Yates; two sisters, Rachel Wade and Jessie Mae Slate and a brother, Akers J. Martin.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Hilda Hughes Martin; three sons, Michael Clarke Martin of Spencer, David Franklin Martin and wife, Debbie of Stuart, Scott Andrew Martin and wife, Donna of Ridgeway, 9
grandchildren; Michael C. Martin, Kristina M. Tuggle, Kayla A. Vaughn, Cody N. Spence, Amber M. Yates, David Colten Martin, Ashley Jones, Karyna Jones and Mya Hairston, 7 great grandchildren; Addison Tuggle, Tyler R. Yates, Jordan R. Yates, Benjamin Yates, Tyler Tanner, Christian Borkin and Ashton Gravely, two brothers; Fred Junior Martin and wife, Betty of Stuart, Willie Noel Martin and wife, Ruby of Lawsonville, two sisters; Margaret Pendleton of Martinsville, Frances M. Hopkins of Stuart and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Martin will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday,
January 7, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Don Forrester and Pastor Terry Martin officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Hughes Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home.
