Mr. Fred Howard Childress

Mr. Fred Howard Childress, age 83, of Mount Airy passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 12, 2015. He was born in Surry County on March 22, 1932 to the late John Dave and Lucy Plutina Bledsoe Childress. Mr. Childress was a retired long haul trucker for B.J. Sherrill Trucking and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served our country during the Korean War. He will long be remembered for his keen sense of humor and his friendly nature. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carlene and Otto Hawks of Mount Airy and a son, David Childress, of Dobson; beloved grandchildren, Toby Childress, Lonnie Childress, David Childress, Jr., Wesley Hawks, Michelle Hawks, Jason Childress,, Dennis Hawks, Cody Childress, Corey Childress, Jonathan Hawks, Julie Hawks, Anthony Childress, Travis Hawks, Christine Curran, Kaelynn Curran, Peyton Barner, Logan Childress and Elizabeth Childress; twenty two great-grandchildren; a brother, Homer J. Childress, of Dobson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye Michael Childress; seven sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday November 14, 2015 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by Brother Barlow Stanley with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Full military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard, Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 410 Washington, DC 20036.Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the family.
